KAIMAI RETURNS TO PORT. [per press association.] AUCKLAND, August 20. A return to port, eight hours after her departure for Westport, to land the chief officer (Mr G. M. Schofield), who was suffering from an internal complaint, was made last .light by the Westport Coal Company’s, Ltd s-. chartered steamer Kaimai. She felt Auckland for Westport at noon yesterday, and four hours later, after clearing Hauraki Gulf, she was put back, arriving shortly before S p.m. , The Kaimai berthed at Prince s wharf, where the port health officer (Dr. J. A. Watson) attended Mr Schofield, who was taken to the Auckland Public Hospital, where he underwent an operation. His condition :o-day was reported to be satisfactory. After several hours had been spent in a search for an officer to fill Mr Schofield’s position. a- replacement was made last night, and the Kaimai resumed her voyage at midnight.
