AMERICAN STRIKERS
FATAL FIGHT WITH POLICE

MINNEAPOLIS, July 15
A series of riots arising from a Works Progress Administration strike culminated in a pitched battle in the city streets. Police, with armoured cars. . riot guns, and tear-gas, fought strikers armed with bricks and sticks.
One striker was killed and 17 were injured. The Mayor later announced that the city refused responsibility for further operation of relief works, “in order to avert civil war.”
