AUSTRALIAN NAVY
, RUMOURS OF DISCONTENT.
[by CABLE —PRESS ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.]
SYDNEY, July 16
Rumours are persistent of discontent among ratings of the Royal Australian Navy. The “Sunday Sun" reports that recent secret meetings of the crews of all naval vessels at present at Sydney will be held during the week-end to consider an undertaking given recently by the Minister for Defence (Mr. Street) to investigate rumours. The causes of complaints are said to be salaries generally, but particularly married men’s allotvances, and also the disbandment of the men’s welfare committees. The ratings were recently paraded and addressed by senior officers. Mr. Street said at Perth that he had every confidence in the loyalty of the Fleet, and of all the members of the squadron.
