BLAKETOWN HALL

financial position. Mr. A. 11. McKane presided over an attendance of about 50 residents of Blaketown and Preston Road, and debenture holders, at a meeting of the Blaketown Hall Committee last evening. The chairman explained that the object of the meeting was to clear up any misunderstandings there might be regarding the position of the hail committee and the state of the finances. He referred to the good work accomplished by the committee, which had, since 1923, practically wiped out the hall liability. He remarked that at the first meeting on July 10, 1923, when there were 23 people present, £74 had been subscribed, and if those present had similar feelings of enthusiasm, the debt could easily be liquidated. The financial statement for the twelve months from February, 1938 to January, 1939 showed receipts at £6B 7/9, including rent £5l/15/6, and expenditure £65/15/8, including payment of £37/10/- to debenture holders. Receipts for the period from February 1, 1939 to July 15, 1939, were shown at £47/0/10, including £3B/16/- from rent. Expenditure totailed-£47, including £l5 paid to debenture holders. Assets were shown at £824/6/10, including £BOO (hall and furniture) and £2O (section). Liabilities amount to £l2, all in debentures.

Messrs. W. Herring, J. Grant, and P. McDonald were elected by ballot, from eight nominations, to fill three vacancies on the committee.

It was decided to hold a shop day to liquidate the remaining debt on the hall.

It was resolved that on payment of the remaining debentures, the hall be controlled by a committee to he elected by citizens of Blaketown and Preston Road.

The Committee acknowledged donations of £5 from Mr. J. Leitch, Shakespeare Street, and £1 from Mrs. L. Wilson, in debentures.

A vote of thanks was passed to the committee for their work in the control of the hall.
