INTOXICATED DRIVERS
OFFENCES IN CHRISTCHURCH

, Thirty days’ gaol in one case, and a. £5O fine in the second, were the sentences imposed on two intoxicated motorists, when they- were charged before Mr. Lovvey. S.M.. in Court this morning. The two accused were Walter Andrew McMillan, a. farm manager, of Irwell. Leeston. 53. who was lined £5O, and had his license cancelled for two years, and Thomas Raymond Warren, 28. a. carpenter, who was sentenced to 30 days’ hard labour, and had his license cancelled for four years. Before dealing with the prosecutions, Sub-Inspector Packer pointed out that, up to July 17 last year, 21 charges of driving while intoxicated had been laid, while so far this year there had been 28. including the two to-day. So far ibis month, five persons had been charged. There were three charges in January, three in April, and five, in June. McMillan’s motor-car went over a three-foot bank on the corner of the Christ church-Springston highway, early on Sunday morning, said the Sub-Inspector. Inquiries revealed that McMillan had had a slight, collision with another car. In dealing with Warren’s case, the Sub-Inspector said that accused ran into a cyclist from behind.
