BLACKBALL NOTES
[our own correspondent.] The monthly meeting of the Blackball School Committee was held in the schoolroom. Present: Mesdames Driscoll, Anderson, Chilton, Mason (chairman), Messrs J. Haisty, J. P. Lowry (secretary). An apology for absence was received from D. Kidd. Mr Mason (headmaster) was also present. Correspondence was receiced on the following subjects:—Canterbury Education Board, renewal of curtains and clocks supplied; erection of bicycle shed; renQvation to headmaster’s residence; drum of chenal, Committee’s liability; Department of Health regarding refund on cartage of milk; West Coast School Committees’ Association regarding advice of refund. Donations weije received towards installation of school radio from Hall and Welfare Society £5, and from A. M. and W. Maloney £l. Accounts aggregating £2/19/6 were passed for payment It was resolved to send a letter of congratulation to Mr E. Ellery, on his election to the Canterbury Education Board.
The headmaster’s report was as follows:—Roll 169, 81 boys and 88 girls; two withdrawn and five admitted sin,ce last meeting. Collected, 4/- so far for cocoa-making. Arrangements have been made with the Tennis Club to coach the girls in basketball on their courts. The electric pump has been giving trouble. Cups and medals have been engraved. Twenty-nine pupils have joined up with the T.L.R. scheme. Oil-drums have been converted into rubbish containers.
