EXHIBITION VISITORS
PREPARATIONS IN WELLINGTON. WELLINGTON, July 13. Already reservations for accommodation during the New. Zealand Centennial Exhibition at Wellington are being made, according to a. statement made by the officer in charge of this aspect of the Centennial celebrations, Mr. T. Lawless, in an interview to-day. He stressed his appreciation, of the fine response made by WeJ* llngton householders in offering accommodation during the Exhibition period and' said that tlie problem housing the expected influx of visitorsto Wellington between November and MayT94o; was wellori the-way to solm tion. Accommodation for ’ several thousand visitors in private homes was now available to supplement the normal accommodation resources of the city.
“Complete information on accommoda, tion and how to get it is now available throughout New Zealand/’, said Mr. Lawless.’ Printed pamphlets stating the types of board arid' t,he rates to be charged, were available at all Post Offices and railway stations' The main issue now was to get-'in-tending visitors to appreciate the necessity of making an early application for their accommodation, so that the best use could be made of the facilities offering.
The pamphlet gives particulars as to tariffs to be charged in the Exhibition Hotel, Centennial Guest House, boarding houses and private homes and the accommodation ranges from full board to sleeping quarters only. It is considered that every provision has been made to cater for varying demands.
Appreciating the difficulty that will face many intending visitors in that they will not be able to make a personal inspection or’ enquiry as to the nature of the accommodation they will require, the official accommodation bureau has been established to fulfil this need. ,All the bookings made by the bureau will be made with a full knowledge of the conditions and conveniences avaiable in each case and all accommodation in private homes has been approved by the bureau’s officers. Mr. Lawless emphasised that the service supplied by his department would be given with the aim of fulfilling individual wants as completely as circuhistahces would permit. “We shall have to ask for a little latitude as there may be some difficulty in securing the exact accommodation asked for at the stipulated rates, but intending visitors may rest assured that we shall be considering their interests primarily in every instance,” he said.
