HAMMERSMITH EXPLOSION

LONDON, July 13.

His Majesty, during an investiture at St. James’s Palace, pinned the 0.8. E. on Mr. Childs, the. Hammersmith bridge hero, and congratulated him on his plucky perception.

Two time-bombs exploded on Hammersmith Bridge, on the morning of March 29. Childs, who was walking across the bridge, heard crackling from what he took to be a box. He picked it up and threw it into the river. The bomb exploded before it reached the water. As Childs lent the bridge, a. second explosion occurred on the opposite footpath.
