INDUSTRIAL DISPUTES
POSITION AT KARORI
[PEE PRESS ASSOCIATION.]
WELLINGTON, June 29
After discussion at a meeting to-day between representatives of the Master Builders’ Federation and the Carpenters’ and General Labourers’ Unions Io consider further the Karori housing dispute, the employers’ representatives refused to appoint a Disputes’ Committee, maintaining that the questions at. issue had already been decided by the Arbitration Court.
The carpenters and joiners are to bold a meeting next Tuesday to discuss the matter. In the meantime, work is proceeding at Karori.
HITCH AT EXHIBITION
WELLINGTON, June 29
A labour hitch occurred at the Exhibition buildings, to-day, when the men engaged in erecting tubular steel tor “Playland” held a meeting. The main issue of this was the scale of wages. The scaffolders’ rate was claimed. The employers held that the wage scale was under the General Labourers’ Award. On an assurance that the matter would be referred to the Disputes’ .Committee, the men went back to work 20 minutes late.
