FIVE BOYS ESCAPE
WERAROA TRAINING FARM.
[PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.]
LEVIN, May 15,
Five boys escaped from the Weraroa Training Farm, on Saturday night, and since there has been a series of thefts and car conversions.
A car belonging to E. Webber, of Levin, was reported missing, but was recovered in charge of two of the boys, at Hawera, on Sunday. It is believed that the other three boys headed across country to Poroutawha, where a hall was broken into, and sugar and the contents of essence bottles strewn over
the floor, which was also littered with broken crockery. An unsuccessful attempt was made to start a car in a nearby garage. It was reported later that three bicycles were missing from Foxton. Last night, Rev. Father W. Jensen’s
light car disappeared from the neighbourhood of the presbytery at Palmerston North.
The boys are still at large.
