PIPE BANDS
NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIPS. [PER PRESS ASSOCIATION, j CHRISTCHURCH. March 12. The Dominion pipe bands contest was decided during the week-end. Timaru Highland won the A Grade championship, and Manawatu Scottish Society’s Band the B grade. Thirteen bands competed, and features of the contest were a street march, watched by a large crowd on Saturday, and the drum-major’s display at the showgrounds to-day, the latter being most impressive, and attracting 18.000 people. The placings in the individual events were: —
A Grade Quickstep: Timaru 1. Ruahine 2, City of Christchurch 3. Own Selection: City of Christchurch 1, Ruahine 2. Timaru 3. Drum Majors’ Display: Ruahine 1. Timaru 2. City of Christchurch 3. B Grade Quickstep: Manawatu 1. Canterbury Caledonian 2. Gore 3. B Grade Own Selection: Manawatu 1, Gore 2, Temuka 3. B Grade Drum Majors’ Display : Manawatu 1. Gore 2. The street march for both grades was won by Wanganui, with Timaru second and Ruahine third.
