FRUIT-PICKERS START RIOT POLICE USE FIREARMS [by CABLE —PRESS ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.] (Recd. March 13, 1.30 p.m.). SYDNEY, March 13. Shots were fired by the police, and fire-hoses were used, in an attempt to subdue 500 rioting fruit-pickers, In Redcliffs. For more than two hours the police, townspeople, and block-holders struggled with the pickers. It is believed that a brawl among several pickers led to a riot, and a general fight began. Al one stage, 2000 persons were struggling in the streets. The firing of shots, and heavy st reams, of water from the hoses, dispersed the mob.
