Shoe manufacturing having been his interest for 35 years, Mr. Charles Kashins, of Oakland, California, offered some suggestions to the industry in New Zealand, after observations here and in Australia, when he passed through Auckland on his way back to America. “I was surprised with the selling methods in ' this part of the world,” said Mr. Kushins. “I do not think there are enough people trained in the correct fitting of shoes, because they' are not given the proper facilities to suit buyers. For that reason much foot trouble is caused, especially among women.” Shoes were made in the Dominion on a standard last, and sold after a single fitting, Mr. Kushins continued. Neither fact was conducive to foot comfort. Multiple fittings, as practised in America, solved the problem. It might be said each shoe was made for its wearer. “The public should be made shoe conscious," he added. “American women, and men too, nowadays, buy shoes like a hat, to match their clothes. At the same time, they will not forsake comfort for price or fashion.”
