Of his own visit he said: "I am going to Berlin in response to an invitation which I have been glad to accept to attend a dinner by the Reichsgruppe Industries, in connection with discussions with the Federation of British Industries regarding competition betwen individual industries of the two countries. I hope to have the opportunity to make contacts and to survey the general problems' of English-German trade relations with those prominent in German economic life.” He confirmed that his visit would be concerned only with trade, and that questions of a political nature would be excluded. He denied knowledge of a suggestion that any proposals about Germany’s short-term indebtedness would be discussed during the visit. He also said that the Dominion governments would be kept in touch with any developments from these informal exploratory discussions which seemed likely to be of interest to ■ them. DR.
