COOL STORE DESTROYED MELBOURNE, February 20. Fire and explosion destroyed the premises of the Blackburn Cool Stores Proprietary. Ltd., at Blackburn to-dav. The damage is estimated at £25.000. About 8000 cases of pears were ruined.
MILITARY FORCES. SYDNEY, February 21
The Federal Government lias decided to increase the permanent military forces by 2000 men. At present, the permanent forces number about 3000 men. The strength of the militia has reached 61,359.
The Minister of External Affairs (Mr. Hughes) announced’ that enlistment will be continued until about 52,000 men are secured.
