POWER SHUT DOWN
Ml! TROTTEIUS HXi’I.A-N ATION In connect ion with the various ■■. hut-downs Of power lines advertised from lime to lime for work on Sundays. which have been frequent of late, the Engineer io the Grey Eleri r ic power Hoard (Mr Sinclair Trailer) in a. slaleimmt made to the ‘■Star” yesterday afternoon, stated jt .should bo explained to consumers that, these have been necessary owing to Hie amount of alteralit.n which has been required lo the Hoard's high tension system to enarile supply lo be laken from the system of the Government. Formerly the whole supply with Hie exception of the- Hotomaiiu area, came Irani the Arnold River Generating Station via the two main transmission lines to Kaiala. Substation. Aller Sunday next the Hoard's total requirements will be fed into its system from Dobson and also at the. Main Government Substation at Hukarere. these being the points to which the required amount of (tie. combined power of Diesel engine, .Arnold plant and GoleridgeWaitaki. systems will be fed for the. Hoard's use over its general distvibulion system.
On Sunday next, to which the present. advertisement refers, the Arnold Station will be cut completely adrift from the Hoard's system. Hie Kaiala Sub-stat ion will cease to I'unrtion as a breaking-down point, and all power including Rotomanu distributed as previously explained. This will give greater convenience with less liability to interruption than the temporary arrangements which have been in use now for approximately one year. This work has . been carried out piecemeal as opportunity offered, and the. times chosen to give the- least inconvenience to consumers affected. The only remaining work to be done .is the re-instateinent of the Omoto Hoad section where Hie large- slip occurred, with the separation into two sections of the town of Groymoulh. and Hie country area as far as Cam erons. 'Phis will be undertaken some Sunday at the most convenient time to the consumers on this section, and an opportunity taken to replace numerous insulators broken by rifle tire in King's Dark and elsewhere. This practically completes the work in view to restore normal operating conditions. The Board has endeavoured to maintain the. continuity of supply during these alterations with. as few in?, terruptions as possible, but in thosei instances where power has been cut off that, has been unavoidable. It is I expected that power from the main I South Island system of the Government will be available in a month or so on completion and testing of the main transmission line from Canterbury, concluded Mr Trotter.
