FIRST PRESIDENT OF TURKEY.— Near the Anaka Museum, happily conceived and magnificently placed, is the equestrian statue of the first President of the Turkish Republic, Kemal Ataturk. Kemal Ataturk was elected President of the Assembly and of the Government on April 23 1920. In that year a new constitution was drawn up and the Grand National Assembly was declared to be the sole lawful representative of the nation.
