BOWLING TOURNAMENT

RINKS COMPETITION

[PEE press association.]

AUCKLAND, January 16

At. the New Zealand Bowling Association’s championship tournament today, the fifth and sixth rounds of section play in the fours events were decided. The weather conditions were very trying during the sixth scries, when the wind rose to almost: gale force, and cold showers fell at inter vals. Altogether it was a most difficult day for the contestants. When the wind was at its height, the quality of the bowling naturally suffered, and the efforts of some of the players to find touch were not very successful. Six rounds out of the eight, have now been disposed of, and the remaining two rounds will be decided to-mor-row. There are now six undefeated teams, compared with 67 after the first day’s play, and .1.5 after the second day. The undefeated teams are; Myers (Avondale), Piper (Maitai), R. Thomas (Mount Albert), Franks (Balmoral), Engelbretsen (Wanganui), and Montgomery (Auckland). The following five combinations suffered their first defeat to date in the sixth round: Rolls (Featherstone), De Launay (Carlton), E. W. Walker (Mt. Eden), E. Taylor (Carlton), Love (New South Wales). On the form shown so far, the skips with outstanding prospects appear to be Piper, R. Thomas, and Engelbretsen. SECTION C. Fifth Round: Vincent (Auckland) 26, G Bennett (Poverty Bay) 18. J. H. Brown (Upper Hutt) 19, Elliott (Wliitiora) 16. G. Clarke (Mount Albert) 26, J. R. Smith (Kelburn) 14.
