[BY CABLE —TRESS ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.]
(Recd. January 17, 1 p.m.) SYDNEY, January 17. Wireless advice has been received from the master, that the sma “ wooden coastal vessel, Belbowiie, 21c tons, ran on a reef off Maroubra Point, about 9 o’clock last night. He urgently required help, otherwise he would have to abandon the ship. The pilot vessel Captain Cook immediately went to the scene, about four miles south of Sydney Heads. The Belbowrie later broke in two, and is believed to be a total loss. The crew were not rescued by the breeches buoy, as at first reported, but made their way, hand over hand, along a> rope, through 60 feet of boiling surf, to the shore. Captain Dixon was the last to leave the ship. He became exhausted, while still over the water, and with Hie cry, “I'm done!” he let go the line and fell into the surf. A number of men dashed in , and dragged him to the land.
