BUILDING TILES

NEW ZEALAND SUPPLY

DUNEDIN, January 16

Through Hie action of the manufacturers in extending the output of their plants, sufficient building tiles are now being produced in New Zealand for all purposes. This statement was made to-day by the Minister for Housing (Mr Armstrong), who said Hint the difficulty experienced last, year in Hie form of a shortage of tiles, especially in the North Island, had been overcome.

For a Hine the Housing Department had heen unable to secure sufficient tiles for its purpose, either in New Zealand or Australia, and had been forced to specify iron roofs for some of its houses. The manufacturers, however, had extended their plants, and were now able to produce sufficient t ill's to cope with the demand.

Mr. J. A. Lee, parliamentary unctcrsecrelary to the Minister for 1-louslng, announced, to-day, that Hie Cabinet had approved of the following ennl raets: — Auckland—Point Chevalier, F. G. Rose and Sons. Ltd., three units: J. W. Maddren, five units; Ta.kapuna, W. J, Skelton. 17; Avondale. G. Britton, eight; Mount, Albert. A. G. Grinter, 15; One Tree Hill. T. M. Taylor, 21; Remiiera, T. Clements, seven.

Stratford—A. Sullivan, three. To Puke—F. Beazley, five. Whakatane —Boon. Sullivan. Luke. Ltd., 10. Wellington—Ngaio, Hay Bros., nine. Fairlic —L. S. Ward, seven.

In addition, contracts for the erection of garages and toolsheds, have been awarded as follow:—Palmerston North. R. IL Crozier, 27 toolsheds; Ashburton. W. Bennett and Son. 24 loolsheds; Invercargill, R. Richardson, one communal garage (five units) and 22 toolsheds. The following drainage and reading contracts have also been approved:-— Riecarton. Ryan Bros., reading, Blenheim and Nelson. R. -J. Waters, drain:jge; Te Awaniiuu. F. B. Hull ami Company. drainage; Wakan (Dunedin). Keogh Bros., reading.
