I MONTHLY MEETING. 'lTie monthly meeting of the Nelson Education Board hold on Monday, was attended by the Hon. W. H. Mclntyre (chairman), Messrs. J. H. Harkness,' F. A. Carling, F. A. Hamilton, H. Bari-■ trop, I’’. V. Knapp, and J. K. Wilkens.! Accounts totalling £9,715/14/- were ; passed for payment. The tender of Mr. R. Ycllowlees was | accepted for the erection oi\ x a new | school at Alexander River. It. was decided to call tenders as', soon as the Department makes a grant , for a new classroom at, Inangahua , Junction. in connection with the proposed new schools at Westport, it was de- . cided that when the approval of the I Minister for I lie purchase of the properties was received, the Board would proceed with the preparation of the grounds. I take place on Tuesday. January 10. j A high tribute was paid to the Westi port school by the Senior Inspector ! (Mr. G. Overton) when he stated that he had yet to learn of a school anywhere in New Zealand which did better handwork than Westport school. Mr. J. H. Harkness said he had recently had the opportunity of visiting the school’s annual display, and he had been surprised by the fine quality of so much of the handwork. One class of girls were wearing skirts that they had made themselves, even to the weaving of the material. A number of photographs of the Westport display were exhibited in the Board room.
