NATIONAL PARTY. WELLINGTON, November 22. General matters of policy are to be discussed by the caucus of Parliamentary Members of the National Patty, opening at Wellington to-morrow, and which is expected to last two days.

WELLINGTON MANUFACTURERS. WELLINGTON, November 21. Having in view the development of secondary industries under the present Government’s policy and consequent extension of the work of the central office, the Wellington Manufacturers’ Association has decided upon the establishment of a. home of its own. and has purchased a property at the corner of Willis and Ghuznee streets, for many years part of the Gilmer Estate, and the residence and chambers of. the late Dr. Hamilton Gilmer.

P.O. OFFICER’S THEFT. DUNEDIN, November 22.

Raymond Hanna. Lavender, 23, formerly a postal officer at Gore, was sentenced at the Supreme Court, to three months’ imprisonment for the theft ot four postal packets, containing £3 10/-. Accused had been in the postal service for ten years- . Judge Kennedy, on sentencing the accused, said that thefts of this kind threw suspicion on others, and might be a cause of hardship to persons receiving money through the post, and in need of that money.

AGED COUPLE MARRY. AUCKLAND, November 21. A bride aged 76 and bridegroom of S 3 were married in Auckland to-day. The bride was Mrs Emily Bamfield and the bridegroom Mr T. B. Jacobsen, a well-known figure in the city, who for many years past has made the feeding of pigeons and’ other birds in Albert Park his special charge. The ceremony was performed by Canon C. A. B. 'Watson, whose birthday it happened to be. in the presence of a large number of relatives and friends. The couple was the oldest Canon Watson has ever married. Mrs Bamfield was a widow and Mr Jacobsen, who is the father of Messrs N. R. and C. N- Jacobsen, of Auckland, was a widower.

UNDESIRABLE CONVICTED

CHRISTCHURCH, November 21.

John Munro, aged 37, a showman, pleaded guilty to a charge that on August 15, at Christchurch, with intent to defraud', he obtained £ll from Olive McCarthy by falsely representing that he was a friend of her brothers, Rangi and Mick Thompson, and that his friend was the owner of the racehorse, Pango.

Detective-Sergeant McClung said that the accused had said that he did not have enough money to pay his fa,re back to the North, Island. He had promised to refund the money when he returned home, but had disappeared. It had been ascertained that he was not known to the brothers of Olive McCarthy and that his friend was not the owner of Pango. Since 1919, the accused had accumulated quite a reputation in the criminal world in Australia,, and it woujd be to the advantage of the Dominion if he left the country. Munro had made out an order for the return of the money. Boats would be leaving Auckland for Australia on November 30 and December 6, said the detectivesergeant. Munro said that he would not have time to dispose of his property and travel to Auckland so a,s to leave by November 30.

The Magistrate ordered Munro to come up for sentence if called upon within three years, the condition being that he leaves the country by December 6 and that he refunds the money.
