RIOT AT FUNERAL
MARSEILLES, Nov. 14
Thirteen were injured, nine of whom were admitted to hospital, during the funeral of the fire victims. A Sengalese soldiei’ ran amok, and a free fight developed. , Three hundred thousand people lined the route to the cemetery, where a common grave had been prepared.
INTOXICATED DRIVERS.
SYDNEY, November 15.
Week-end gaol fox’ drunken drivers is not advocated by the Minister of Transport (Mr. Bruxner). Commenting on Mr. Semple’s proposal, Mr. Bruxner said: “Week-end gaol would stop them going to the beaches or races. I know what I would like to do with drunken drivers, and it would not only be for the week-end.”
BRITISH POLITICS.
LONDON, November 14
Mr Eden, in a speech at Oxford University Carlton Club, urged that there should be consultation between political parties, with the aim of reaching an agreement on the great issues confronting the nation, not only .?n foreign policy and defence, but in improved conditions for the people. He said that many feel that the future for British people was never more menacing.
NOTES LOST AND FOUND
WELLINGTON, November 15.
Similarity between the ten shillings and fifty pound notes issued by the Reserve Bank caused Willie Wong, market gardener, Cuba Street, Wellington, to lose two of the latter on October 31. He began advertising, but it was not until last night that the advertisement was noticed by Oswald Davies, of 8 Ascot Terrace, labourer, who on Wednesday November 2 picked up what he thought were two ten shilling notes outside the Te Aro Post Office. He threw them into a drawer on reaching home, and more or less forgot about them, as he still thought them ten shilling notes. It was not till yesterday that he found they were fifties. He immediately took them to the police station. They were returned to Wong.

DUNEDIN, November 15.
Scoule beat J. McDougall at the 21st hole. Reilly beat Carr, four and threle. First Flight Match (open to sixteen amateurs returning the lowest aggregate scores in the open championship, and -who did not qualify for the amateur championship): Park won from Duncan by default. J. Mclntosh beat Butcher, threQ and two. Nicolaus won from Sams, by default.
