A cablegram from Ottawa stated that the Prime Minister (Mr. Mackenzie King) announced King George will arrive at Quebec aboard H.M.S. Repulse on. May 15, and depart for England on June 10. During his tour of Canada, he will meet Mr. and Mrs. Roosevelt on the border at Niagara Falls, and for four days will visit White House, Washington. The Parliamentary session opening in January will be timed to permit the King to officiate personally at the prorogation.

After 14 months as assistant-British Trade Commissioner at Vancouver, Mr A. G. C. Deuber arrived at Auckland by the Niagara to take up _a similar appointment in New Zealand, with headquarters at Wellington. Mr Deuber will succeed Mr T. G. A. Muntz, who left New Zealand last January. He will be actingBritish Trade Commissioner in the Dominion for the greater part of next year, during the absence of Mr R. t Boulter on a joint official and holiday visit to England.

The death occurred suddenly yesterday at Welshman’s, on the Old Marsden Road, of Mr. William Power Foster, a native of Collingwood, Australia, aged 71 years. Deceased had resided in the district for the past 25 years \ and for many years was at Greenstone. He was in San Francisco ' at the time of the earthquake in 1906. His wife, who pre-deceased him about four years ago, was a member of the Tindald family of Greymouth. The funeral took place this afternoon, at the Karoro Cemetery. The services, at the residence of Mr. B. Tindale, Russell Terrace, and at the graveside, were conducted by Archdeacon J. A. Jermyn.

The death took place at Greymouth, this morning, of Mr. Herbert George Cruse, of Blackball. A native of Australia, aged 49 years, deceased came to New Zealand at the age of 16 and had resided in Blackball for the past 30 years, following the occupation of a coal miner. He had been in illhealth for the past month. He was secretary of the Blackball branch of the M.U.1.0.0.F. He is survived by his wife, one daughter, Miss Eleanor Cruse (Blackball) and one son, Frederick (Greymouth). He also leaves a brother and a sister, in Australia. The funeVal will take place on Thursday, leaving the residence, Town Belt, Blackball, at 1.30 p.m., for the Karoro Cemetery.

The death occurred at Christchurch, last evening, of Mr. Frederick Hobbs, Town Clerk of Lyttelton since 1919. He was born in the North Island, but spent his boyhood in Westport, where he was educated at the primary school and the High School. He was appointed to the staff of the Westport Borough Council, on leaving school, and became Town Clerk, a position he held until his appointment as Town Clerk of Lyttelton. In his younger days, he played football for Buller, and later was a member of the Buller Referees’ Association. He was also a former member of the Westport Trotting Club, and was a past-master of the Kawatiri Masonic Lodge. He is survived by his wife, four sons, and two daughters.
