A Hollywood cablegram announced the death of the former film actress, Pauline Frederick, from acute asthma.

The death is announced from*London of Blattengata. Herouy, Abyssinian Foreign Minister.

Mr E. S, Brittenden, District Railways Traffic Manager, arrived this morning, from Christchurch.

Mr. W. P. O’Neill, and Mrs. O'Neill, senr., left this morning, for Christchurch.

A Press Association telegram from Timaru, announced the death of Mr. John Hole, a former Mayor of Timaru, aged 87 years.

Mr H. J. Murphy, Postmaster, Otira, will leave to-morrow, on transfer to Leeston. He has been replaced at Otira by Mr R. P. Andrews, Nightcaps.

Passengers by Cook Strait Airways West Coast service to-day were:— Wellington-Greymouth: Mr. T. Clarkson; Greymouth-Wellington: Mrs. A. Tomkies.

The funeral of the late Mrs. Emilie' Hahn took place this afternoon, at the Karoro Cemetery. The services, at the residence of Mr. G. Roberts, junr., Arney Street, and at the graveside, were conducted by Rev. W. Osborne Brown.

Guests at the Albion Hotel include: Mr and Mrs Lewis Timaru), Mr H. Abbott, Mrs Kydd, Mr W. S. Butcher, Mr G. J. Riorden, Miss K. Edwards, Mr A. T. Stone (Christchurch), Mr L. G. Grange (Auckland), Mr J. Sutton (Bruce Bay).

A Melbourne cablegram stated that thousands of people paid a last tribute to the late Keith. Voitre, the New Zealand jockey, whose funeral took place yesterday. About thirty jockeys formed a guard of honour. Hundreds of wreaths were received from all parts of New Zealand and Australia. Many thousands, including leading racing men, trainers and jockeys, attended at the graveside.

The death occurred .at the Old People’s Home last evening, of James Pickup, a native of Pilkington, England, aged 69 years. Dec’eased came to New Zealand 31 years ago, and worked on the Greymouth wharf for a number of years. For the past six years he had worked at the Old People’s Home. The funeral K will •take place to-morrow morning at Karoro Cemetery, leaving the Grey Hospital at 11 o’clock.
