RFEFTON, September 21
With continued heavy rain in steady showers with little cessation since Thursday night last, the Inangahua River is very swollen with the rain. The Waitahu River also and the side creeks are carrying large bodies of water, and although there have been no road blockages all streams are high. On Thursday afternoon, the newlyerected Plunket and Women's Rost room on Buller Road, will bo officially opened by the Minister of Mines. Hon. P. C. Webb.
Mr and Mrs J. Bain, of Christchurch, are the guests* of Miss' Lawn, of Crushington, Mrs Bain’s aunt. The accommodation for pupils al. the Reefton. District High School has for some time been heavily taxed, and the School Committee have approached the Nelson Education Board with a view to having the Board make application for a grant for the erection of a new class room to constitute a separate block for the infants. The Education Board have decided to accede to the Committee’s request, and it is to be hoped that the near future will see the request favourably considered by the Education Department and a grant made for the erecti'on of a new class room. Messrs J. Oates and Ernest Orr, who were injured in accidents last week, the former at Merrijigs' Coal Mine,' and the latter at Blackwater, mine, are showing an improvement, in j condition. Both are inmates of the Inangahua Hospital.
