Miss M. Comrie (Wellington), who has been the guest of Mr. and Mrs. B. Dixon, Cowper Street, left this morning for Dunedin.
The death is reported from Wanganui of Miss Mildred Anne Newcombe, a prominent social worker. —Press Assn.
Mr. M. Masters will arrive this afternoon from Christchurch, on a visit to his sister, Mrs. O. Moore, Preston Road.
Mr and Mrs W. Whiteman, o’f Gisborne, arrived to-day on a visit to Greymouth, and are the guests of Mrs Whiteman’s parents, Mr and Mrs E. J. Rundle.
The death occurred at the Inaiigahua Hospital, Reefton, on Sunday, of Mrs. Ethel Louise Hocking, of Waiuta. wife of Mr. Joseph W. Hocking, of Waiuta. Deceased, who was 28 years of age. and a native of Cornwall, had been in New Zealand eight years, and had been in ill-health for some months. She is survived by her husband and two children, a son aged three, and a girl aged 18 months.

At a meeting of the Greymouth Fire Brigade last evening, Superintendent P. Deere presented ex-fireman W. Braithwaite, who had recently resigned, with a case of cutlery. He expressed regret that the Brigade had lost Fireman Braithwaite, who had been a splendid worker for the Brigade, and their social fund. On behalf of the Fire Board he also thanked him for residing in the High Street Station for the past nine years. He congratulated Mr Braithwaite on his marriage, and wished him and his wife every happiness. Deputy Superintendent A. White also spoke, and added his good wishes.
The death occurred suddenly this morning, of Mr. John Miller, Mayor of Invercargill, in his fifth term of office, and his fourth successive term as President of the Southland League. He was a member for several years of the Southland Hospital Board, a member of the executive of the South Island Travel Association, and a member of the executive of the New Zealand Municipal Electric Supply Asso- \
ciation. He was born in Scotland and began his career as a chemist, then practised for many years as a veterinarian. He went to India with remounts and after a short period, went to Invercargill. He contested the Invercargill seat at the last election, in Nationalist interests. —Press Ashn.
The death occurred at Greymouth, at noon to-day, of a pioneer resident of New Zealand, Mrs. Emilie Hahn, a native of Lunow, Bradenburgh, Germany, aged 82 years. Deceased left Germany at the age of 16 'years, for London, where she joined the sailing ship, Simetap, in 1871, and arrived, in Lyttelton some six months later. She was married at the age of 19 years, and resided at East Oxford for 18 years. She then came with her husband to the West Coast, travelling in 1 an old horse wagon, which took three weeks to make the journey, and she settled at Kokiri. In 1917 she came to Greymouth, and had since resided k in Brick Street. Her husband predeceased her 19 years ago. She is survived by four sons, John (Moana), William (Ikamatua), Harry (Christchurch), and Otto (Hokitika), six daughters, Mesdames W. Dudley, H. Wilson. R. Newman and C. Corbin (Grey district), S. Wilson and W. Hardie (Christchurch). There are also 43 grandchildren, and 34 greatgrandchildren. The funeral will take place at Karoro Cemetery to-morrow afternoon, leaving the residence of Mr. G. Roberts, junr., Arney Street, at t two o’clock.
