MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Greymouth Returned Soldiers’ Association was held last Friday evening. Present: Messrs. A. H. McKane (chairman), T. Jones, R. Marley, W. Pring, G. Batty and T. P. Ryan. A grant of £5 was made to a local Imperial soldier on the report of the President and Mr. R. Marley. The Secretary reported assisting an Imperial soldier ,and the case is to be further investigated, by Archdeacon Jermyn. An application- for assistance from a soldier in the Grey Valley was referred to the Secretary with power to act. A Tetter was received from the Nelson Returned Soldiers’ Association for particulars of an application for a pension which had been refused^ —Secret--ary to supply particulars. An account of £l/1-0/- owing to Blackball Association was passed for payment. The Secretary reported on applications for pensions as follows: —One granted at 10/- per week- —the Secretary’s action in lodging an appeal for a higher assessment was. approved;, one granted 17/6 (Military), 2/6 (War Veterans); the Secretary’s action in filing application for an Economic Pension was approved; one refused, and the Secretary’s action in appealing was approved; two further applications awaiting pensions examination by Doctor Barrett. An application by a widow for her ( son’s gratuity was forwarded to head quarters for a report.
An application to the Christchurch Patriotic Association for assistance for a sick returned soldier was approved, and a letter received granting three weeks’ board and £l/10/-. A letter was received from Mr. W. F. Dunlop, Sydney, granting £B/2/- to, pay accounts for a deceased relation. — Received with thanks, and the Secretary’s action in paying accounts was approved... An invitation to the. Hokitika Reunion was received. —Messrs. McKane, Batty and Mosley were appointed to represent the Association.
An application from Hawke’s Bay for assistance for a Waiuta enlistment •was referred to the National War. Funds Councsi.
The president reported that the Canterbury A.S.C. will bo arriving in Greymouth on September 1.2, and will camp at Victoria ' Park. —Messrs. McKane, Ryan, Crankshaw and Pring • were appointed to meet the Territorials in regard to entertaining the, visitors. Messrs. Pring and Dixon reported' regarding hospital visits, a.nd assistance granted to returned men in hospital. Messrs. McKane and Mosley were appointed a Hospital Committee for September.
