THE GRANDEUR THAT WAS ROME. — To-day, as in the greatest days of Imperial Rome, the centre of Imperial interest is the Colosseum. The Colosseum was built in the first century A.D. during the reigns of Xespasian, Titus and Domitian. Elliptical in shape, the building measures 848 feet in circumference and 164 feet in height. For centaries it was used for games and spectacles, and at the opening ceremonies, which lasted one hundred days, ten thousand animals were slain.
