August 2. “The Times’s" Hendaye correspondent says that warfare is general throughout Spain. The Ebro, Tagus, and Guardiana are running with blood. The Loyalists' reports indicate that the real struggle is about to begin. Their army, on the right, of the Ebro, is pressing hard towards Gandesa. The rebels’ lines must be stabilised, before the attack on Sagunto can be resumed.

ITALIAN LOSSES

ROME, August 2.

It is officially stated that the Italian losses in Spain, between July 13 and 24, were 27 officers killed, one missing, and 140 wounded. Other ranks, 205 killed and 1473 wounded.

ESPIONAGE TRIAL

(Rec. August 3, 1 p.m.) MADRID, August 2.

After a six weeks’ trial of 195 persons, accused of high treason and espionage, 23 were sentenced to death, 25 were acquitted, and 106 were im-P’.-i.Av.0.l for terms ranging from six' to 30 years, 11 receiving the maximum.

Others were released during the course of the trial, or their cases were ordered to be investigated again.
