The rcqueisit. of Professor Jagan' Nath (tra'iner of th.ei inid'ian hockey tea'ni) to bo ■allowed! fo umpire in' otc-ry nia-tch. in New Zeaiandi was discussed to-night by- the management ccmmitltco of the New Zealand Hockey Association.

1c was decided' that New Zealand umpires shall- be appointed' to all of the" test matches, but t'Uat in. each of 1110 provincial m'atches, the local association should nominate two umpires, fiirst and second' choice, and' that tlra-controlling association have the option of appointing Professor Jagan Nath to one end, if it so desired.

The following umpires weer appointed’: Wanganui: Mr C. A. Conchi and Professor .lagan -Nath; North Taranaki, Mr N. Pennington and Professor Jagan Nath; Nelson, Mr J. W. Russell and 1 Professor Jagan Nath: West Coast, Mr S. Todd; anti Jagan Nath; Canterbury, Mr C. S. Bellamy and Jagan Nath.

Mr P. N: Quartc-rmain stated that the Indians preferred brief civic welcomes at their hotels on arrival. The manager of the team would .appreciate opportunities' of visiting 'college's and school's and addressing the students. impromptu functions would be preferable to arranged parties, but many m'emlbeTiSi of the team liked dancing.

In answer to an enquiry by the Poverty Bay Hockey Association, in refel'enot to a match with a Maori team at Rotorua, the se'eretary replied that, in the absence of a. reply to his letter of Maj' 3. no match had been arranged against a Maori team, but if a. date was available, the; question would be re-opened later. Tho following umpires were appointed for the test matches, the manager of the Indian team; to have the option of appointing the second umpire in each test: Fiife.t' test, Mr R. Gracie; second test, Mr. W. A. Scott; third teS,t. Mr, A. G. Williams.

N.Z. WOMEN’S TEAM

WELLINGTON, June 21

New Zealand’s women’s hockey team to meet the English team in the first test match of the tour at Christchurch on Julj' 6, is announced as follows:—

Goal: Miss M. Rind (Canterbury).

Full-backs: Misses A. McDonald (Eastern), W. Woolley (Marlborough), Mrs L. Askew (Auckland).

Halves: Misses M. Sanson (Eastern), 8. Aldridge (Canterbury), A. Mackie (Otago). Forwards: Misses M. Nicol (Eastern), M. McKenzie (Canterbury). M. Sheiiff (Eastern), H. McLellan (Wellington), D. Dickey (Canterbury), Mrs I. Gawler (Auckland).

Miss Nicol is to be captain and Miss Mackie vice-captain. The manager will be Mrs J. H. Boulter, and the coach, Mr G. C. Hamilton.
