Wellington. seven for Whangarei, six for St. Heliers, 26 for Napier, 11 for Hawera. and 12 for Temuka. OTAGO WINTER SHOW. DUNEDIN, June 3. With almost 3000 entries in the competitive classes, the catalogue of the 1938 Winter Show, held to-day by the Otago Agricultural and Pastoral Society, maintains the high standard of previous exhibitions, and should provide both variety and interest for the thousands who will visit the display in the Agricultural Hall buildings during the coming week. The show was officially opened this afternoon before a. large crowd by the Minister for Lands (Hon. F. Langstone). The show will continue until Thursday night. NEW FREEZING WORKS INVERCARGILL. June 3. The establishment of two new freezing works in Southland is the objective of a movement just launched. Beginning at Dipton to-morrow, urgent meetings are to be held in various parts of the province, and on Wednesday. June 22, all producers interested in the proposal are to meet members of the Meat Producers Board at Invercargill. A farmer engaged in the raising of fat lambs said this evening that there was at. present a lack of adequate facilities for killing and freezing, and farmers had to wait for space at the works. He added that there was a strong demand by the farmers of Southland for another works. FALSE DECLARATIONS. AUCKLAND. June 3. Charged with making a false statement. to obtain benefit under' the Employment Promotion Act, and also with obtaining money under false pretences. William Andrew Somerville, a single num, appeared, before Mr C. R. Orr Walker, S.M.. in the Magistrate’s Court. The defendant, pleaded guilty (o both charges. Asked by the Magistrate if he had anything to say. the defendant said he made the false declarations at a time when he was badly in need of money. He wasi willing to refund the excess money he had received. The defendant was sentenced to threo weeks’ imprisonment in respect of the false pretences charge, and fined £l7/10/-, and ordered to pay costs on the other charge.
