- Jour own correspondent.] The weekly meeting of the Debating Club was held in the School of Mines, the President, Mr L. Cook, presiding over a fair attendance. A report from’the West Coast Debating Clubs’ League was presented by’ Mr W- Williams. An invitation was extended to the Waiuta Club to meet in Runanga at an early date. Mr W. Wick at this juncture took charge of the meeting, when the evening was spent with impromptu speeches: —Mr L. Cook, ‘lhe improvement of Runanga”; Mr J. Smith, “Will pay holidays benefit the workers, on the whole?” Mr A. Airns, “Does advertising by radio improve sales?” Mr T. Walker, “Does Australia take her cricket too seriously?” Mr D. Barnes, “My idea of the situation in Europe”; Mr W. Williams, “Should the single man be taxed to support the married man and his family?” Mr .1. Unwin. "Germany, Past and J'resent"; Mi’ S. Braithwaite, “Does sport lead to a better life?” A general discussion took place on current events. Mrs Johnston presided at the first evening meeting of the Runanga W.L held in the Druids' Hall. Two new members were welcomed. Mrs Winstanle.v read the aspiration. The birthday this year is to be held in August, and is to be private. It was decided to do away with competitions. Each member is to bring an exhibit of her handiwork every month. lor tiiis month were won by "Something from one and-half yards Britway." Mesdames Long and Gallon. Gems, Mrs Long. Hostesses for next month., Mesdanies Dickel, McLeod, Glover, Griffiths. Scott and Wafer.
