COLONIAL SL’CAR COMPANY. SYDNEY, May 25. Addressing the half-yearly general meeting of the Colonial Sugar Refining Company, Ltd., the chairman (Mr. E. I!. Knoxi said the Australian sugar production last, season was a record. Mr. Knox said world prices of sugar al present were at a low level, and the improvement expected as a result of the international agreement had not materialised. The increased demand for the company’s distillery products had produced 782,461 tons of taw sugar last season, compared with 756.131 tons in the previous year, of which 351,93.8 tons was retained for home consumption and tiie remainder exported. 'l’ho returns for sugar exported were substantially higher than in recent years, but these were largely* offset by tin increase of 87 per cent, in overseas, freight. Tiie report and balance-sheet were adopted. A special meeting of shareholders held later adopted a resolution for the substitution of a. memorandum of the articles of association for the enacting deed of settlement, embracing proposals put forward on May 3. The resolution also enables directors to sit on the board and vote when negotiations for contracts are proceeded with other companies in which they have interests.
