BRITISH AMATEUR. TITLE. [BY CABLE —PRESS ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.] LONDON. May 25. In the British amateur golf championship contest, second round, Mackay beat Howie 2/1. Robb beat the holder Sweeny 5/4. Yates, an American Walker Cup player defeated Pennink, the English champion 3/2. Hector Thomson defeated Grant Govan one up. Goodman defeated Briscoe 6/5. The Cambridge blue, Jocelyn Walker, defeated the American Walker Cup player, Reynold Smith, two up. LATER. In the third round. J. N. Reynard defeated McKay, one up. Ryan defeated J. C. Wilson (Scottish international) 2/1. Hattersley defeated Gordon Peters 4/2. Hattersley scored a crashing success, defeating the British Walker Cup player, Peters, one of the most powerful West of Scotland players, and strongly fancied for the championship. The match was square at the turn, then Hattersley with a devastating run, 3,3, 4,4, 2, 4 2 4, took the match. Ewing (Ireland) defeated Ouimet, one up.
