FISHING SEASON CLOSES
GREY ANGLERS SATISFIED. Saturday saw the close of the 193738 trout-fishing .season —a considerably better season in the Grey district than the. last, which was poor- This year, floods in the rivers were fewer, and there was less sluicing, while the Summer was fairly warm. These factors, combined with an abundance of feed, ? were reflected in the excellent condiiton of fish caught throughout the district. Many excellent specimens were taken, outstanding catches being a tlj.lbs rainbow taken from (he' ( rooked River by Mr Wheeler, of Te Kinga, and a lOAlbs brown front caught by Mr N. Neville, of Kumara, in. the Teremakau River. Catches were consistently good, and some averages of fish were well above the three pounds mark. The concluding day was cold and raw—not a good fishing day. Generally, anglers in the Grey district are well satisfied wih the season. DUCK SEASON OPENS. The duck-shooting season opened to-day, and many parties of sportsmen left town this morning, for their first shoot of the season. The weather for the opening day is not ideal for ducks, but the birds are plentiful in the Grey district. Prospects for a successful season are considered bright. Additional interest is lent to the season, this year, in the Grey district, as there is, for one week, an open season for paradise ducks.
