SHEFFIELD STEEL

SOVIET ORDER SECURED. -

[BRITISH OFFICIAL WIRELESS]

(Recd. February 12, 12-30 p.m.) RUGBY, February 11.

The steel output in January, in the United Kingdom, of 1,081,400 tons, was the highest ever recorded for the first of the year.

The newspapers record the placing with a Sheffield firm of one of the biggest orders for steel works plant and machinery ever booked in Sheffield. The order has been placed by the Soviet, and its execution will give continuous employment for eighteen months at new works which the firm recently opened. The total weight of the finished machinery will be between 5000 and 6000 tons. The order was obtained in keen competition with tenders from Germany and the United States.
