CLAIM BY THEATRE [BY CABLE —-PRESS ASSN. COPYRIGHT.] (Recd. Feb. 11, Noon). LONDON, February 10. The Golders Green Hippodrome, Limited, sought carnages from the British Broadcasting Corporation for alleged “injurious falsehood.” Counsel"said that, while Miss Compton was appearing at the the Broadcasting Corporation advertised her as participating in two performances of a radio play. This resulted in the Hippodrome receipts falling from £2,363 in tae first week to £1,740 in the second. Actually, tne Broadcasting Corporation was merely reproducing a gramophone record, but it was broadcast in a manner suggesting that Miss Compton was actually hi the studio.
The assistant-director of programmes at the 8.8. C. gave evidence that he forgot to announce that Miss Compton was taking part “either in person or by record.” When the mistake was pointed out, an announcement was made, clearly indicating that Miss Compton’s voice was recorded. VERDICT FOR 8.8. C. LONDON, February 10. In the Fay Compton case, a verdict was returned for the x Broadcasting Corporation.
