TOURNAMENT NEARING CLOSE The fourth day’s play in the West Coast-Buller combined centres’ championship bowling tournament was favoured with perfect weather conditions. At the conclusion of the day’s play, the semi-finalists in the pairs competition had been found, a play-off being necessary in five sections, and two, in the sixth section, to find the section winners. Play was continued until p.m., on the Greymouth green, where a large gallery watched the concluding play in five of the sections. Page (Lyttelton), easily defeated White (Runanga), in the play-off in section A., and McCorkindale (Karoro), scored a comfortable win over Watson (Maitai) in Section 8., play-off. Brackenridge (Lyall *Bay), defeated Rvan (Barrington) narrowly in Section C, and Young (R.S.A.) scored a decisive win over Lowry (St. Albans) in a splendid match to finalise Section E. There was more fine bowling in Section F, where Cogswell (Greymouth) defeated Munn (Canterbury) 11-8, and was then narrowly beaten by his club-mate Mercer, in a closelycontested game, for Mercer to enter the semi-finals as winner of Section F. At Runanga, O’Neil (Runanga) and Taylor (Runanga) fought out the play-off in Section D, O’Neil winning comfortably. SECTION WINNERS Section A:—Page and White five wins; Section B: —iWatson and McCorkindale, five wins; Section C: Brackenridge and Ryan five wins; Section D: —Taylor and O’Neil six wins; Section E:—Lowry and Young, six wins; Section F: —Cogswell, Munn and Mercer, five wins.
