SHEEP KILLERS DETECTED
WATCHMAN FIRES AT MAN.
MELBOURNE, December 15.
A nightwatchman fired five shots ; at two men he disturbed-'in the rest- - - ing yards at Flemington. Before the i watchman, Mr Harper, discovered the men they had killed 11 sheep. V Mr Harper told Detective-Sergeant - lawience and police from Burwood that he was patrolling along a dividing fence when he "was attracted by X the bark-of a dog. There were about > 200 sheep in the resting paddock. ; They appeared to be restless. As Mr X j Harper walked towards the flock he heard a man call out: “Look out, someone’s coming.” Two men then / rose from among the sheep and be-./? gau running, toward the other side of A. the yard. "■ -y Mr Harper called, on them to stop. “When they failed to do so I pulled out my revolver and fired five shots 7at them,” Mr Harper told the police. None of the shots', is believed to have taken effect, as the men climbed A over a fence and disappeared.. In a'l corner of the resting yards, Mr Harper found 11 sheep. Each had been killed by a blow on the head. Four of § the sheep had their throats cut, as 5 though being prepared for skinning. 7
