MUSICAL GENIUS

A AVAR VICTIM

[by CABLE —PRESS ASSN.—COPYRIGHT.]

(Recd. December 29 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, December 28

One of the tragedies of the Great War is recalled by the death from tuberculosis of Ivor Gurney, 47, musician and poet, who before the war was regarded as a genius comparable with Schubert, but his physical and mental powers were ruined by his war experiences.

He wrote 200 songs and many violin and piano compositions. Only 40 songs and two piano pieces were published. Twenty songs will appear shortly.
