Miss M. Taylor has resigned from the staff of J. R. McKenzie, Ltd., Grey mouth,- to join the nursing staff of the Westland Hospital. Miss Taylor was met by members of the staff on Satur-' day, and presented with a handbag, the presentation being made by the manager, Mr. A. R. Donnelly,- who wished Miss Taylor the best of health and success in her new position.

Mr and Mrs G. McDonald, of Blaketown, entertained about 80 guests in the Municipal Band Hall on Saturdayevening, to mark the coming-of-age of their daughter, Miss Tui McDonald. Archdeacon J. A. Jermyn presided, and proposed the toast of the guest Of honour, also presenting her with the customary golden key. Music for the dancing was supplied by Mr W. Williams, and Mr R. Baxter was M.C. Items were given by Miss Ida McDonald and Mr Max Marshall.

Donovan, of Petone, and for-v ■ merly of Greymouth, will fake, place .■ next month, was presented with a silver tea pot by members of St. Pat-? rick’s Church Choir, last evening. a Very Rev. Father J. Long, in’ making the presentation, thanked Miss Gay- ' nbr for her valued services to the choir, and wished her happiness and prosperity in her married life. The conductor, Mr. J. Wood, also spoke in appreciation of Miss Gaynor’s work as a choir-member, and expressed the best wishes of all members. ■

From thirty-six applications, the Palmerston North Technical School Committee appointed Horace .McDonald Scott, M.A., Hons, in Maths., Diploma of Education, Chief Instructor . in Mathematics at the Seddon Memorial Technical College, - Auckland, as Director of the Palmerston North Technical High School, in succession .

to G. G. Hancock, who is taking up an appointment at Masterton. Mr. Scott, whose appointment is subject to the consent of the Minister and the Education Department, takes up his new duties at the beginning of the new school year.—Press Assn.

The death occurred at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Hugh Boyer, “Marholin” Waverley, on Saturday, of Mrs. Douglas Cowper Tennent, eldfest; child of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Greenwood, of Nelson and Greymouth, the late Mr. Greenwood being the first Chairman of the Grey Main School Committee. She was the eldest grand- ' child of the late Dr. and Mrs. Danforth Greenwood, and Major and Mrs. C. Manners Gascoyne, both of Motueka and Nelson. The former arrived in the sailing ship Phoebe, in January, 1841, and the latter, Major Gascoyne, retired from the Indian Army in 1857. Mrs. Tennent’s husband, of “Westward Ho,” Marton, died in 1920, and she is survived by five daughters and three sons, one of the daughters being Mrs. A. V. Oliver, Cowper Street, Greymouth.
