COMMITTEE ME E TIN G 'l'he monthly meeting oi the Grey Main School Committee was held last evening, there being present, Messrs A. E. Morgan (chairman), G. Batty, M. K. B. Shcard, W. Williams, E. V. Ellery, L. Patterson, 11. Herring and the Headmaster (Mr. .1. Graham). A vote of condolence was passed to the relatives of the late William McDougall. The resignation of Miss N. J-lavill, assistant mistress at the Main School, as from August 31, was accepted with regret.
'rhe Headmaster (Mr. J. Graham), reported as follows for the month: — Roll numbers: Main School —330 boys and 289 girls, total 619; average attendance, 308 boys and 268 girls, total 576; Admissions: 10 boys and 18 girls, total 28. Blakelown—7o boys and 72 girls, total 112; average attendance, 60 boys and 63 girls, total 123; admissions, 2 boys. At the commencement of this term Miss E. Clarke took over her duties as senior assistant at Blakcfown. Owing to ill health, Mrs. Wise and Miss Archer have been granted leave of absence, the relieving teachers being Mrs. Kiely and Miss Davies. 'l’he boarding round the garden plots near the main entrance of the school requires replacing. A special effort to push ahead the playground improvement programme, commenced a year ago, should be made immediately. Five clocks Lire required for Hie schoolrooms." The report was adopted.

In reply to a question by the Chairman, the Headmaster said that the atlendancc al the Main School was a litilo ahead of the last term, while at Blakelown it, was well ahead, although there was a good deal of sickness among Hie younger children. 'l’he Chairman said that he had been lo the Public Works Department several limes over the ground, and he understood that they were making application for a fresh grant.
Mr. Shcard: If they do not do something soon, they will have to go over what they have already done, particularly at Blakctown, where quite a number of holes have developed. On the motion of the Chairman and .Mr. Shcard. it was decided to write to the Public Works Department, asking when it was intended to complete the work commenced nearly a year ago.
Mr. Herring, for the Visiting Committee, reported that everything was in order al the Main School, while at Blaketnwn the main I rouble was the pools of water lying about the grounds. Mr. Shcard also referred to the water lying on the ground at Blakelown, and it was decided that a working bee should attend to the matter, it being considered that a few loads of sand would be sufficient, until the grounds wore put in order permanently. Mr. Shcard presented a list of matters requiring attention at Blakctown aud it was decided to request the Education Board to carry out the promise
