RED CROSS SOCIETY

GREYMOUTH BRANCH. The Under-Secretary of the League of Red Cross Societies, at its headquarters in Paris, Mr. Lewis de Gielgud, is to visit the West Coast next month, in the course of a tour of the Dominion, and will attend a meeting of the Greymouth Branch on Monday, October 4, on his return from the South Westland Glaciers. Mr. Gielgud, who will be accompanied by his wife, has been un-der-secretarj' of the League for nearly ten years.

A meeting of the Greymouth branch was held, last evening, Mrs. G. W. Meade presiding over a good attendance. Arrangments were ma.de for Mr. H. L. Hutchinson to attend the conference at Wellington, to welcome Mr. Gielgud, as the Greymouth delegate. It was decided to order badges, a sample of which was approved. The examination results were received as satisfactory, and a social evening is to be held, for the presentation of certificates. Arrangements were made for the visit, of Mr. Gielgud.

WESTLAND SUB-BRANCH

HOKITIKA. September 16

A special meeting of the comm it lee of ihe Westland Suh-Centre of lhe N.Z. Red Cross Society was held on Wednesday evening. The chairman reported on the result of the meeting with lhe local mcmers of St. John Ambulance, and regretted that no agreement could be reached for lhe amalgamation of the two bodies. It was decided to carry on classes in the usual way. and to conjoin in the lectures. The secretary reported that Mrs. F. Fane had been appointed to represent, the Women’s Institute and Mr. F. Ashley to represent the Westland County Council, both of whom were elected to the committee. It was also decided to appoint Matron Anderson, Sister Gillespie and Doctors Wilson, Aitken, Childs and Corban as members of the executive. The Mayors of Ross and Kumara and the Westland County Chairman were appointed lion, members, subject to their acceptance. Various sub-committees were appointed.
