WORLD ECONOMICS
BELGIAN PREMIER’S MISSION. [BRITISH OFFICIAL WIBELESS] RUGBY, July 28. Tn a Commons answer, on a recent letter from the King of the Belgians to his Prime Minister, on concerted economic study, Mr Eden said that the Belgian Prime Minister undertook a mission of enquiry into existing world economic conditions, to which reference was made in a letter from the King of the Belgians, at the joint invitation of the French and British Governments. The British Government had, therefore, naturally ►ead with great interest the suggestions' made in the letter, a copy of which had been communicated to it by the Belgian Ambassador. It was understood that M. Van Zeeland was about to set out the preliminary results of his inquiry, and inview of this fact that the British Government had not, so far, been requested to furnish comments on the detailed suggestions made in the King of tho Belgians’ letter, it was not advisable for him to comment thereon at present. Ho added that the British Government warmly appreciated- the ideals inspired by King Leopold’s initiative, and would approach the results of M. Van Zeeland’s preliminary inquiry with a desire to co-operate in any proposals which offered prospects of practical action.
