Mrs J. Shelly left this morning, on return to Hawarden.

Mr and Mrs J. F. Harris left to-day’ for Akaroa.

Bishop Brodie Avill leave Christchurch on August 19 for Australia to attend the National Synod in Sydney.

Dr. Anna Lewin left, to-day, for New Plymouth, where she has accepted an appointment.

Mr. L. S. Allan, of the. clerical staff of the Dunedin railways goods office, has been promoted to the position of stationmaster at, Otira.

Mr. and Mrs. E. Holder, who have been visiting Mr. Holder’s mother at Westport, left to-day on return to England, where Mr. Holder is playing Rugby League for the Wigan Club.

A Sydney cablegram announced that the Federal Cabinet yesterday decided to invite Earl Baldwin to visit Australia next, year, for the. Sydney Anniversary Celebrations.

Guests at Revington’s include: — Messrs P. W. Macintosh-Cox, F. W. Bostock (Christchurch), H. H. Harris (Tlmaru), S. H. Whittaker (Auckland).

Mr L. G. Simpson, Post and Telegraph Department, Auckland, has been transferred to Greymouth, as overseer, replacing Mr S. R. Shannon. transferred on promotion to Christchurch.

A Perth (W.A.) cablegram stated that Field-Marshal Sir William Birdw’ood arrived by the Narkunda. He is visiting his son-in-law’ and daughter, but will be unable to extend the visit to the Eastern States, owing to lack of time, which is greatly regretted! by ex-servicemen.

Mr. George Brown, who will leave on Saturday, on an extended visit to England, was farewelled last evening by a large gathering of the members of the BlaketOAvn Football Club. The President (Mr. W. G. Scott) presided and made eulogistic references to Mr Brown’s service to the club, as a player, secretary and a member of the executive.' Expressions of regret at Mr. Brown’s departure, and best wishes for his journey w’ere expressed by Mr. Scott, Mr. S. Batchelor (who made a presentation, on behalf of the players, of an inscribed leather suitcase), F. McEnaney (secretary). A. Lees (vice-president) and H. Dimond (on behalf of the juniors).
