JAP-CHINESE CLASH. [BY CABLE —PRESS ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.] PEKIN July 9. A minor clash at dawn preceded the withdrawal of the Chinese and Japanese forces to opposite banks of the Yungting River at Fengtai. The Chinese Foreign Office protested to Tokio about Japan’s provocative activities. The Japanese Ambassador is hastening to Nanking in an endeavour to reach an amicable settlement of the incident. TROOPS WITHDRAWN. (Received July 10, 10.30 a.m.) PEKIN, July 9. After a brief clash due to a further misunderstanding, Chinese militia replaced the Chinese regulars' occupying the Wangping area. In accordance with the agreement, the majority of the Japanese have withdrawn.
