ATTEMPT TO ROB THEATRE
ROILED BY WOMAN. SYDNEY. June 28. An attempt by a masked man and a companion to rob the box office of a picture theatre at Thirlmere. a small town about five miles from Picton, failed on Saturday night. The girl in the office. Miss Elsie Cash, ran into the theatre with the takings when the men appeared. Miss Cash told the police that two men came into the vestibule of the theatre about. 8.20. One man, who was wearing a. handkerchief over his face and a pair of goggles, came to the ticket window and mumbled something which she did not hear. He had wbat appeared to be a revolver in his hand. The other man stayed behind him. Grubbing the theatre money, which had been put into a bag. Miss Cash rushed out of the ticket office through a door which connected with the theatre and screamed for help. Simultaneously there was a crash as one of the men smashed the ticket office window and snatched a roll of theatre tickets. |
An operator. Mr. Roy Walker, who I was working in his box about .10 feet 1 above the vestibule, heard Miss Cash’s screams and jumped out of the box to the floor. As he did so the men rushed out into the darkness. The operator chased them, but fell as he ran across a paddock, ami the men disappeared! in the rain. I Police from Picton rushed to Thirl-1 mere and made a search without result. Detective-sergeant Sly, of Parramata. was sent to investigate. I
