PRISONER WALKS OUT
A COSTLY ESCAPADE. LONDON. May 2. There was a sequel to the recent escape fi'om Guernsey Prison in the Guernsey Royal Court yesterday, when Arthur James Lesbirel, a prisoner, appeared on a summons for having alone or with accomplice escaped from the public prison on the night of February 9-10. He pleaded guilty. Tho Attorney-General said that about 9 p.m. on February 9, a warder conducted Lesbirel and another prisoner lo their cells. Subsequently Lesbirel was found to have escaped. The gaoler and a warder waited for him to return. He did so at 5.15 a.m. Lesbirel said he. removed the key (from the gaoler’s kitchen when he iwas on duty there. i The Attorney-General: I do not ask [for a heavy penalty. There muist have I been some measure of negligence, r f [which the man took advantage. The prisoner would lose four months’ remission on his sentence to which he would of hoi wise have been entitled. The Bailiff said the evident slackness must bo taken Into account. There was a want of care and precaution.
Lesbirel was sentenced to two months’ hard labour, to be served in addition to his present sentence.
