INDUSTRIAL ALLOWANCES. [PER press association.] WELLINGTON. June 24. The R.S.A. conference agreed that, in all eases where returned soldiers were receiving the veteran’s allowance and sustenance, they should be required to report to the Labour Bureau monthly, instead of weekly as at present. The principle of special consideration to civil servant annuitants, whose retirement took place before the completion of 40 years’ service, owing to war service, was supported, the cases to be dealt with on their merits.
The Government is to be again urged to make more provision for the employment, of ex-servicemen in the Government, service. The Canteen Funds Trust. Board is to be asked to gram, not less than £12,0(10 during the present year, for assistance io tin- largo number of partially disabled men. who are still dependent on benevolent funds to supplement their income. The conference debated the subject of planned immigration, to-day. ami renewed its support, the general opin ion being that increased population would mean an improved defensive position, and increased possibilities for the employment of men unfit for heavy work. A delegate said that more internal trading would increase prosperity, but more such trading needed more population.
The Council resolved upon instructing its representatives on the War Funds Investigation Committee to obtain permission, if possible, from the Committee, after it reached tentative decisions and before such conclusions are implemented, to report to al'. Associations ami submit such tentative decisions for their comment, as guide to the Now Zealand R.S.A. representatives on the Committee. In the event of this permission not being obtained, the representatives are to be instructed to make an interim report to all Associations, to obtain their views.
